Detail the methods and tricks Mike has used to build two versions of the Ford Flathead engine. One is mildly modified the second is an all out race engine for the salt flats. With the availability of more modern technology new speed equipment is now available to enable these engines to produce horsepower far in excess of their makers' wildest dreams.
The Ford Sidevalve V8 or as it is most commonly known "Flathead" has been with us since 1932 and has been a favourite with hot rodders since that time. The Flathead is currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity as older hot rodders rediscover the magic and younger ones discover it for the first time.
With the availability of more modern technology new speed equipment is now available to enable these engines to produce horsepower far in excess of their makers' wildest dreams.
This book covers the buildup of two such engines, one is coupled to a two speed Powerglide auto and fitted in a '22T Ford Roadster used as everyday transport and run at nostalgic drags, while the other is a pure race engine, coupled to a Saginaw four speed and fitted in a '27T Ford Roadster used on the salt flats.
